• three point / PTO post hole digger for 1023

Posted by FL-Dave on January 8, 2022 at 9:45 am

Good morning all. I am working through the best way to clean up a significant amount of old pasture fence. I really should have a larger tractor – but that is a longer story for another day. I need to restore better than a mile of fence. The good news is – not all at once. I am working through my options to dig the holes and a PTO hole digger is one.

Can anyone recommend a PTO hole digger that mostly works. I saw Tim work though his review so I don’t expect perfection.

Can I use a full size setup with a 48 in auger or do I have to utilize the 30 inch auger?

As consideration I do have an older full size tractor that I hope to get back in service this spring. Thus my hope I make do with a full size for the urgent fixes and then switch to a full size high later with only a single purchase.

Specific product information is helpful but it may come down to what can I find to purchase. Supply around me seems pretty limited right now.

Cheers – like the show and hope the forum takes off.

    Dave

I have the one from tractor supply, my little 2210 ran it just fine. i made a leg so it wouldn’t suck down into the ground to fast or past a certain depth. other than that it’s been great for me. it’s punched about 150 holes.

Mine is from Tractor Supply too. it works. I can pick it up about 6″ off the ground when in the ‘middle’ configuration. You should be fine.

Killer223 and Tim – Thank you for the courtesy of a reply. I spent more time than most would researching this. So far I plan to purchase Land Shark’s subcompact model from everything attachment. It will be a few weeks to order and get it in but his video discussion of how they make them, favoring US materials and testing it on a one (1) series sold me. I have a used one for sale less than one hour away now. That might be perfect.

If anything noteworthy happens I will try and share it back.

This is a post purchase and a first use follow up.

I ended up purchasing a Land Shark with 9 inch auger from everything attachments. After minor assembly and using it; I would purchase it again. I purchased the recommended 36 inch long auger which will produce about a 24 inch deep hole. After a little practice I was able to produce pretty clean holes with a mostly neat stack of removed dirt. I did not hit any major roots yet so I can not comment on that aspect, but my estimate is it will take a lot. I did not come off idle during the first days use.

I expect to purchase a 48 inch auger as the 24 inch is not deep enough to set 8 foot corner post without some post hole digger work.

Good luck to fellow hole diggers.

    Respectfully,

    Dave
